ShineForth Salon’s 8th Anniversary

It's been eight years since I started my small business and continued my career as a hairstylist, and it has indeed been a wild ride. I don't think I could have predicted how much I would grow and change as a person after all those years, but one thing that has stayed constant is my love for making people feel beautiful and confident just by styling their hair. It brings me so much joy to do what I love every day, and I'm so grateful to have such an amazing community of clients and friends who support me.

What a time to be creative and adventurous with hairstyles!

With my husband, a.k.a. ShineForth Salon’s top supporter!

What You Need To Know About Gender-Neutral Pricing

ShineForth Salon recently changed to gender-neutral pricing to be able to serve clients better. Most hair salons have been separated by gender for as long as I can remember,  and I thought it was the perfect time to make the switch.

Woman's hand cutting hair

The assumption is that most women take the brunt of the cost because longer hair means more work, hair products, and even tools. However, just because men have shorter hair and thus may require less work doesn’t mean women can’t enjoy the same experience at the same cost. Seeing that traditional hair salon pricing is becoming too outdated, I decided to work on the repricing of my services for the benefit of my customers.

For the Look You Want To Express

I know that getting a haircut is an essential and practical part of our lives. Many consider it an act of self-care, and I believe so, too! My salon’s gender-neutral pricing and hourly pricing structure are my way of inspiring change in the community. As a hairstylist, I want my guests to feel comfortable without the need to identify where they fit in the gender spectrum. If they want their hair styled, cut, or colored a certain way, I’m just here to make it happen.

Hourly-Based Pricing Optimizes the Salon’s Schedule

I like to maximize my time when I work at the salon. This structure allows me to spend enough time with each client and talk to them about hair products, tips, and more while working on their desired haircut. It also gives me enough downtime to prepare for my next appointment.

All About Transparency

This is important for client loyalty. Customers appreciate honesty, especially when it comes to pricing because they know where their money goes. For instance, if clients want to change their hairstyle from long to short, it would cost them less because the time spent working on their hair is also less.

In addition to this structure’s economic value (it benefits small businesses a whole lot), gender-neutral pricing plays a huge role in building a more inclusive culture. When you look at today’s hair trends, more men are rocking longer hair while more women are sporting shorter cuts. I want to “break the bias,” if you will, about how people wear their hair.

Quality Over Everything Else

At the end of the day, my goal is to give clients the best haircuts they’ve ever had at a price they’re happy with. You deserve to get your dream hairstyle regardless of gender, and I want you to know that ShineForth Salon is an open space for all.

Revive, Restore, Recover

Your Answer in a Bottle! Most clients walking into the salon say, "My hair feels so dry, and it doesn't feel like my hair anymore." They are concerned and wish to remedy the situation, but not much seems to work.

Till now, that is! The latest product release from L'Oreal Professionnel just this month is going to change your life.

An in-salon treatment that takes about 5 minutes, resurfaces the hair. Not only that, but the shampoo, conditioner, or Masque you take home with you will help to maintain the del of the treatment.

But the really exciting thing is, in your take-home package, their Recharge, which you apply every fourth shampoo and it completely charges up the hair again.

We tested this beautiful treatment in NYC, on very fine, bleached, and very thirsty hair, and the result was amazing.

Where before I was leaning towards Phyto, I am moving in the direction of L'Oreal Professionnel in the attempt to go for the beautiful finish.  When it comes right down to it, we need to love the way our hair feels. The finish on the hair after Pro Fiber treatment, and the hair care at home are unsurpassed.

L'Oreal Session Styling Team

Okay.  September proved to be an unbelievable month.  For five years, I have been pursuing editorial work, building a book, and working many hours in exchange for the picture.  Through www.hairbrained.com, I learned of the L'Oreal Professionnel Session Styling Team audition.  I couldn't pass up the opportunity.  I submitted this video and got to go to NYC for the live audition. All the folks at L'Oreal Professionnel made me and 15 others feel right at home, Joseph DiMaggio, Amit Abraham, and Kate Oechsle, set the tone with the vision of this team, and of not competing, but to share of ourselves. At the end of the day, one brave soul, asked, "When will we know if we are part of the team or not?"  The answer is, "You are all part of the team."  I had to pinch myself!

The common thread of those present is humility.  I knew right away this was a team I wanted to create with and support.
